Canada:   November, 1969 The SS Manhattan, an oil tanker outfitted with an icebreaker bow, as she crosses the Northwest Passage in the Arctic. The ship is 1005 feet long, and its beam was increased form 132 feet to 148 feet by the addition of a protective "ice belt" to guard against hull penetration by the icebergs encountered on the expedition. The icebreaking bow added 65 feet to her length.

Mounties Shoot Canadian Foot-And-Mouth Cattle -- Men of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police photographed picking off some of the cattle with rifles, in their burial pits in the Regina area.A disastrous outbreak of foot and mouth disease has hit the Regina, Saskatchenan area of Western Canada. Hundreds of cattle are being slaughtered daily, shot by 'Mounties', and buried in slaked lime pits. It is believed that the disease was brought to Canada by a German immigrant. March 6, 1952. The Royal Couple Will Attend Niagara Falls Church -- A view of the interior of Christ Church near Niagara Falls where Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh will attend the service on October 7th.One of the highlights of the forthcoming Royal tour of Canada will be the visit of Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh to the famous Niagara Falls, which they will view from the 'honeymooners' balcony of the General Brook Hotel. On Sunday October 7th, they will attend a service at the nearby Anglican Christ Church, set pictures quely in a grove of maple trees. The sermon will be preached by the rector, Rev. Canon A.T.F.
