Pony Express Rides Again in Canada's Postal Centenary "Pony express" rider Walter Sterne (right), six-shooter in hand, passes over the mail to his relief, Chuck Motton, during the demonstration of the mail service as it was about 1851. Last week Canada celebrated the 100th Anniversary of its Postal System, known as "Royal Mail" until 1927, when by special charter it was changed to "Canada Mail". As part of the celebrations, the organisers of the International Philatelio Exhibition now being held in Toronto arranged for mail to be carried into the city from nearby Richmond Hill by "pony express", stage-coach, "Indian runner", and helicopter.
