Born and raised in St. Catharines, Ontario, Dave has been a resident of BC since 1993 and has settled with his family in Sidney on Vancouver Island since 2002. The coast and vast stretches of wilderness that are so prevalent there have provided a unique setting for his nature and wildlife photography, and increasingly he is drawn to search for rare animals, allowing glimpses of wildlife in its true habitat for those who are not able to see it for themselves. This aspect of photography, the revelation of the truth of the subject matter, is an ongoing source of inspiration for Dave. He strongly believes in the promotion of nature conservation and the idea of bringing nature home, allowing access that doesn’t normally happen.
Dave considers himself fortunate to have ventured into places that many others don’t get to go. The Great Bear Rainforest in the North Central Coast of BC has called him back repeatedly with the lure of the elusive Spirit Bear. Shots from these trips have been published in Outdoor Photography Canada, Westworld, Canadian Wildlife, Canadian Geographic, and BC Magazine. He has photographed whales, wolves, birds, bears as well as landscapes and seascapes from all over BC, Alberta, Yukon, and the United States.
Dave was also recently won his Accreditation in “Nature” with the Professional Photographers of Canada. Dave is now teaching private half and full day workshops in the Victoria area as well as his popular Tofino workshops.
